Day
17 of the Walk to the World Cup – MAY 26th
Going nowhere – rest
day
It was a busy day for the Walking to the World Cup team, although
thanks to everyone else, not for me.
We were up at 6.30 a.m.
and Sandra had her bag packed and on the coach for the journey
home with Gt. Totham School by 7.00. At breakfast, we were
joined by Peter and Elaine and Dave and Ted, just like two
married couples. Sandra knew she needed to go home but wanted
to stay with me and the walk and we were both sorry to part.
Soon afterwards, Peter drove Ted and Dave into Liege and the
train to Brussels and Eurostar.
The day was dismal, it rained
pretty much constantly, sometimes heavy with low, dark clouds
swirling by. Shortly after 9.00, Doctor Meurens arrived to
take a look at my swollen shin and ankle. He quickly prescribed
antibiotics and advised to keep using the anti-inflammatory
cream – I hope they work! The rest of the morning was
spent getting up to date with diary and trying unsuccessfully
to access emails – Wegimont’s IT security wouldn’t
allow me to get into my mailbox.
Peter and Elaine came to
the rescue and took me out to lunch, thereby ensuring that
my ‘eat’ to the world cup continued. We went to
Le Jardin Restaurant, a self-service, almost motorway service
style of operation but with better quality and a much wider
variety of food and drink – all at a reasonable price.
On the way out, I noticed that they has wi fi internet access.
Back at the chateau, Peter
drove Elaine up to Spa where they would be staying for the
next two nights and then went over to Brussels to pick up
my brother Chris, his son, Tom and my brother-in-law Anthony.
I had a doze for an hour and then decided to go back up to
the restaurant to have a coffee and check my emails.
By the time, I’d returned,
Chris and the Northern Contingent had arrived and we spent
some time sorting out rooms and the van and then went out
for a meal and planning session for tomorrow.
